National Focus[]

Canada's focus tree is divided into 6 parts, with each part branching off into multiple sub-parts:

The Crown Corporations

A large section of the tree (completing it takes 1400 days) that focuses on building up Canada's industry and providing research bonuses. It is divided into 3 pillars. The left one mainly focuses on resource acquisition and infrastructure expansion. The middle pillar focuses on civilian factories and infrastructure. The last pillar focuses on electronics-related research bonuses. All 3 pillars come together at the end to lead to focuses that give nuclear research bonuses and reactor construction speed

it also enables the creation of the Imperial Economic Development Corporation opening up a new set of decisions where member countries are tracked. Each is asked, on an annual basis, to contribute Political Power to the IEDC… and the administering country (yes, this too can be transferred elsewhere, if needed) then decides who benefits, either with helpful modifiers or with access to off-map factories. The administrator has to be careful, however: countries will get upset if they receive nothing for too long, and will also grow angry if the administrator hogs the best benefits all for itself. Too much of that and they’ll start contributing less, or even leave the organisation.

The King's Speech

The main political branch of Canada's focus tree. Picking the focus "Draft Bill C-7" activates an event chain that allows the player to side with the liberals or conservatives (or compromise) on different issues, starting on industry, conscription, domestic security, and ending on whether the bill is passed or killed in the House of Lords. As a side note, it is highly recommended if the player wishes to succeed, they should know beforehand about the different decisions of Bill C-7 and the consequences of whether or not it is killed.

Address the Army

Picking the focus itself allows the player to choose a Chief of Staff. it is also about your land forces, picking between Grand Battleplan and Mobile Warfare, and gives bonuses and production cost reduction. one branch "Prepare for War", is solely based on preparing for war with the Union of Britain. It gives bonuses to special forces and enables one to contact British Loyalists.

Overhaul the Navy

The right branch focuses on building a navy, picking between Fleet in Being and the Base Strike doctrine, and gives research bonuses, companies, and dockyards.

Expand the Air Force

This part is about air power, picking between the air doctrines Operational Integrity and Strategic Destruction and giving research bonuses and companies, the focuses at the end unlock research bonuses for

The Americans at War

Concerns intervention in the Second American Civil War. "The Intervention Debate" enables you to choose which side to support. Then it goes down "Crossing the Border", which allows you to directly intervene and declare war on whatever factions is not the one you support, or only fighting the CSA if you didn't side with any faction.

This section also unlocks decisions to construct bunkers along the Canadian-American border. Once the American Civil War begins, the player will be given an option to secure strategic regions of America, including Alaska, New England, Puerto Rico, and the Panama Canal. The second sub-branch "The New England Question" gives the player the option to either create a provisional government in New England or continue occupying it and developing the area.

Return of the King

This branch focuses on the aftermath of the liberation of the United Kingdom. Here the player can stay with the King as head of state if they take the focus "Loyalty to the Empire" or become a republic if they take the focus "The Canadian Referendum".

Quebec in Flames

This part has 3 sections: "Montreal Conference", which involves appeasing Quebec and implementing bilingualism, "Suppress the Quebecois" where the government sends in troops and implements martial law in the region, and finally "War Measures Act", which enables the King to form a royal dictatorship.

Industry[]

Canada has the most factories and the strongest industry in the entire Entente.

Military Factories: 13

Civilian Factories: 26

Dockyards: 11

Military[]

At the start of 1936, the Canadian military has ninety thousand manpower in reserve. Manpower is the greatest weakness of Canada at the start. However, what they lack in quantity, the Canadians and Exiles make up for in quality.

Army[]

The Canadian army starts out with a total of 18 divisions in 1936. 2 Marine divisions of 4 battatlions each with Artillery support. 2 experimental motorized divisons made up of 4 motorized battalions and a tank battalion, 6 garrisons divisions only comprised of 6 battalions, 3 Royal Canadian mounted police made up of 3 cavalry battalions with military police support, and 5 infantry divisions made up of 6 infantry battalions with an artillery battalion and engineer support.

2 Marines(4)+Artillery support, 2 Motorized(4)+tank, 6 Militia(6), 3 Cavalry(3)+MP support, 5 Infantry(6)+artilery+engineer support

Navy[]

The Royal Canadian Navy starts out consisting of 158 total ships. The navy is spread out across both the East and West Canadian coasts as well as the other remnants of the empire. While sizeable it can not hope to go one on one against the Union's Republican Navy.

2 carriers, 3 dreadnoughts, 2 armored cruisers, 18 battleships, 3 heavy cruisers, 28 light cruisers, 81 destroyers, and 21 submarines

Possible Canadian PMs[]

One cool feature for Canada is if it becomes a republic, the PM at the time also becomes the new country leader. That means all PMs have both a small minister portrait as well as a big leader portrait. Both will be shown below.

Right off the bat after the King dies an election is called for Oct 1936, with either William Mackenzie King's Liberals or R. B. Bennett's Conservatives gaining a majority. A third option exists where King retain the Premiership with the support of the CCF.

In the aftermath of a failed Bill C-7, if Bennett was PM, he will resign and be replaced by Robert Manion.

Also in the aftermath of the failure to pass Bill C-7, the government will fall and a new election held. It will be a choice between King's Liberals or Bennett's (or if replaced, Manion's) Conservatives.

If during the Quebec crisis, Canada goes for a heavy-handed approach, at first the government will become led by the authoritarian democrat Tories with Arthur Meighen as PM (from the The War Measures Act focus). In the last focus for that path, to suspend Parliament, the King (whomever it may be at the time) will take over personally until civilian government returns after the liberation of the Home Isles. When democracy is restored, the current leader of the social conservative Conservative Party will take over. One year later regular elections resume.

Some events are scripted to happen:

  • The CCF will get a new leader as J. S. Woodsworth will loose a leadership challenge to Major James Coldwell three years from game start.
  • King will retire just over eight years after game start to be replaced as new leader of the Liberals by social liberal Louis St. Laurent.
  • If Bennett was not replaced by Manion, he will retire about nine years from game start as leader of the Conservatives to be replaced by Manion.

In the next General Election which takes place five years after the last, and repeats, will give the almost the same results as the 1936 election. The Liberal Party led by King (or if retired, Louis St. Laurent), the Conservatives led by Bennett (or if retired, or replaced, by Manion), but also the CCF led by Major James Coldwell, with Liberal support. If Canada became a Republic, one more choice will be the national populist Nationalists led by John Diefenbaker.

  • The events that see Diefenbaker as leader of the Nationalists occur from the focus path of a Republican Canada.
  • To get the CCF to show up in the election, the event that Coldwell wins the party leadership, and King retires from the Liberals must have occurred.
  • If the Conservatives lost the next General election, or when it repeats, the Conservative leader at the time will be replaced by John Bracken who will go on to rebrand the party into the Progressive Conservative Party, but keeping the social conservative ideology.

Possible British PMs[]

The British Prime Minister at game start is sitting in exile in the Dominion of Canada, with Austen Chamberlain in the role. But his time as PM is fast approaching it's end. As the PMs are represented as a Minister in the Canadian government, their party affiliation doe snot matter too much, but all are members of the Conservative Party.

When taking the 'Status of the Privy Council' focus, the British PM will be replaced by:

  • Henry Page Croft, chosen by the King
  • Robert Cecil, the moderate candidate
  • Anthony Eden, voted in by British Exiles

There is also a chance that the new PM will be replaced by the King with Robert Vansittart. The event associated with it, which you can see above, will be the same for either of the three. The red underlines denote a change based on who is the King and PM. To get it to trigger, you can not have the spirit, 'Rally the Country,' and must have the flag: King replaces the PM. I just am not sure how to get the flag though.

When the King eventually returns home to the British Isles, the current British PM will of course join him. The current PM will lead the new paternal autocrat government, the British Occupation Administration.

In the runup to holding an election, a number of foci will need to be completed to de-syndicalize the UK. One of them deals with the Labor Party. It can be pardoned, pardoned but with the exception of Clemet Attlee, or banned altogether. When elections can finally be held, it must be decided to hold them, or cancel them. Which focus you can choose depends on how much syndicalist instability there is.

If elections were cancelled:

  • Henry Page Croft will be installed as the PM for the authoritarian democrat National Government.

If elections are held, and will repeat in four years:

  • Conservative Party,
    • Social Conservative:
      • Depending on who was the PM at the time of the return: Robert Cecil, Anthony Eden, or Robert Vansittart. For all the succeeding elections, the Conservatives will stay Soc Con.
    • Authoritarian Democrat :
      • If Henry Page Croft was PM, he will take the Conservatives further right. For all the succeeding elections, the Conservatives will be Auth Dem.
  • Liberal Party, Market Liberal
    • John Simon
  • Labor Party, Social Democrat - If not banned.
    • Clement Attlee - if pardoned
    • Hugh Gaitskell - if Attlee was not pardoned

Abdication[]

The abdication of Edward VII is a random event and thus there is no real set way for it to happen. Once the Second American Civil War starts, an event may fire where Edward VIII begins dating an American actress. If this happens, the abdication event chain will start to play out. If you instead get an event where Edward VIII dates a Greek princess, the abdication won't happen. Beyond hoping that Edward dates an American actress, ensure Edward's popularity is low and the influence of the British exiles is moderate or lower; also, do not have Edward tour during the American Civil War, as touring has its own random events.
