Finland, officially the Kingdom of Finland, is a country in Northern Europe. It borders Norway to the north, Russia to the east and Sweden to the west. It is mainly inhabited by Finns, but there are Sami and Swedish minorities as well.

History[]

Following the introduction of the Finnish Declaration of Independence by Pehr Svinhufvud’s Senate on the 4th of December, 1917 and the subsequent declaration of independence from Russia by Finland on the 6th of December, 1917, Finnish society saw itself divided amongst two groups: the Red Guards, led by Ali Aaltonen, and the White Guards, led by Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim. It wasn’t long before a civil war broke out between Red Finland, which was composed primarily of members of the Social Democratic Party of Finland, and White Finland, composed of forces under the Svinhufvud Senate alongside German-trained Jäger troops.

After three months of vicious warfare, the German-backed Whites were able to push the Reds and the People’s Delegation out of Helsinki and eventually surround the retreating forces who were subsequently forced to surrender. Out of the ashes of the Finnish Civil War rose the Kingdom of Finland, a rabidly anti-socialist nation led by Prince Frederick Charles of Hesse, or King Fredrik Kaarle I as he had come to be known following his coronation.

Despite enjoying a period of peace and protection as an unofficial German protectorate, a certain sense of political resentment has begun to develop within the Finnish populace due to the pervasiveness of German-affiliated officers and companies in the military and economy. In addition, radicals, from both the left and right, have begun to slowly consolidate power after years of negligence by the King and the National Coalition...

Politics[]

Finland is governed by a highly authoritarian right-wing government. The King has significant political power compared to other monarchs in the nearby regions. The National Coalition holds all important government positions.

The country is deeply divided between those loyal to the King, republicans, anti-German nationalists, and syndicalists.

Head of Government: Juho Kusti Paasikivi (National Coalition Party)

Foreign Minister: Kaarle Nestor Rantakari (National Coalition Party)

Economy Minister: Karl Alfred Paloheimo (National Coalition Party)

Interior Minister: Hjalmar Procope (National Coalition Party)

Intelligence Minister: None

Economy[]

Finland's economy is a largely agrarian, but the nation is not food self-reliant, and would not be capable of feeding it's own population. due to this, the country is dependent on importing Ukrainian Grain.

Finland has a healthy industry with 12 factories, thanks to German support. 3 military factories, 1 dockyard, and 8 civilian factories.

Military[]

Finland counts on national conscription to form the bulk of the army, with its military primarily organised around defending against a potential Russian attack. Finland lacks armoured divisions, mostly due to the unsuitable Finnish terrain, which consists mainly of huge forests and thousands of lakes. they also possess an elite force of Jagers.

Army[]

The Finnish army numbers almost 100,000 men, split into 18 total divisions in January of 1936. the army is also supported by the paramilitary White Guard.

Navy[]

The Royal Finnish Navy is small, with the majority of funding and resources going toward the army. It's made up of 10 destroyers and 5 submarines

Foreign Relations[]

Finland enjoys good relations with the German Empire, being a member both Mitteleuropa and the Reichspakt, as well as with nations in the German sphere of influence.

Their relations with Sweden are cordial but occasionally strained over the issue of the Åland Islands. Relations with Russia are outright hostile, and many in Russia see Finland as an integral part of the Russian state. Naturally, Finland has cold relations with the Third Internationale - due to the government's highly anti-Socialist disposition.
