If you are having issues with Kaiserreich that you can't pin down, it may be worth doing a clean reinstall of both Hearts of Iron IV and Kaiserreich. The step-by-step process for that is as follows:

  1. For the love of all that is holy, please use a legal copy of HoI4
  2. Ensure you aren’t on any beta branches of HoI4 - if you're using Steam, the way to check this is to go into your Library, right-click on "Hearts of Iron IV", select "Properties" and check under the Beta tab. The pull-down menu should say "NONE - Opt out of all beta programs")
  3. Unsubscribe from all HoI4 mods (yes, all of them)
  4. Uninstall HoI4 (if you're using Steam, go into your Library, right-click on "Hearts of Iron IV" and the Uninstall option should be under "Manage")
  5. Go to wherever you had HoI4 installed (it'll either be in SteamLibrary\SteamApps\Common or in ProgramFiles\Steam\steamapps\common, depending on your setup) and delete the "Hearts of Iron IV" folder that remains there
  6. Find the folder where your HoI4 saves are kept (it's probably going to be in your Documents folder, some variation on C:\Users\YourName\Documents\ParadoxInteractive\Hearts of Iron IV -- once you get there, you'll see folders for "logs", "save games", "mod", etc.)
  7. Delete the "Hearts of Iron IV" folder entirely - if you have saves you want to keep, delete everything in that folder but the "save games" sub-folder instead
  8. Reboot your computer
  9. Reinstall HoI4 - we advise you put it on your main drive partition (for most users, this is the C: drive) if you can, as a known issue with the launcher is that it has difficulties with installations on non-standard partitions
  10. We advise that you boot a vanilla game up to ensure that everything is working correctly, first
  11. Re-subscribe to your HoI4 mods, and wait for Kaiserreich to download
  12. At this point you should be good to proceed - make sure you play with no other mods active (other than the official submods), as they can cause conflicts with Kaiserreich's files. If you do, do so at your own risk. Ideally, in either case, you should now be able to launch the mod normally.

Note: Running the game in admin mode may help if you are still having issues.

Note: If a clean install still results in errors on Windows, it's possible your mod folder is being continually overwritten by Microsoft OneDrive, due to its location in your Documents folder. If you have OneDrive enabled, you will need to disable it for your mod folder.
