Archduke Otto von Habsburg is the current crown prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

History[]

Early Life[]

Otto was born on the 20th of November at the Villa Wartholz in Reichenau an der Rax, Lower Austria, near Vienna. There he was baptized Franz Joseph Otto Robert Maria Anton Karl Max Heinrich Sixtus Xavier Felix Renatus Ludwig Gaetan Pius Ignatius on the 25th by the Prince-Archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Franz Xaver Nagl.

Less than two years old when the Weltkrieg began, he became the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary when his great-grand uncle, Kaiser Franz Josef I, passed away from pneumonia on the 21st of November, 1916 - the day after his fourth birthday. His father, Kaiser Karl I, inherited an empire fighting on three separate fronts and facing growing shortages and domestic upset. When these reached a fever pitch in late 1918, he issued the "Völkermanifest", a document promising a mass devolution of power to the subject nations of Cisleithania, akin to what Hungary had gained in 1867. Convinced that they would share the fruits of victory, the empire held on to the end, dismantling the Kingdom of Italy and making only a few territorial gains (most notable was the annexation of Montenegro). After the war was officially concluded in November of 1921, Kaiser Karl reconvened the Imperial Council and announced that the Volkermanifest plan would proceed immediately.

Coming of Age and political position[]

Otto attended the private catholic Öffentliches Schottengymnasium der Benediktiner in Vienna, continuing the tradition set by his father Karl I. After graduating from school Otto chose to pursue his studies abroad. In 1935, he graduated with a PhD degree in Political and Social Sciences from the University of Leuven in Flanders-Wallonia.

Having returned to Austria in 1935, Otto entered into the military. He currently serves as Lieutenant of the k.u.k. Ulanenregiment „Ritter von Brudermann“ Nr. 1, which is stationed in Galicia-Lodomeria.

Otto is generally well respected by the peoples of Austria-Hungary. Serving in Galicia-Lodomeria he speaks Polish fluently and regularly does so at official occasions in Galicia-Lodomeria.

Otto is generally associated with Austria's ruling conservative CSP, although he has never openly admitted to any support any political party. Otto has a strong passion for hunting and it is rumored the he may be invited to the traditional country hunt. Participation in this event may be seen as explicit support for the conservative CSP.
